After the Third Death
The third is that moment, sometime in the future,
when your name is spoken for the last time.

                                                    --David Eagleman

Ashes have dissolved
like thoughts on the tongue

A palimpsest of showers
briefly stains and restains–
somewhere–a stone

A silence deepens,
like blue or red
growing more saturated,
more pure, on the walls
of an empty room
slowly filling
with morning sun

You have
never been born
