Greece is round
with the sadness of a civilization that knows
has seen its height in heaven and knows

its span of influence now
brittle columns and sunken temples, pantheon
of skulls smoothed faceless
with water, wind, and worshippers

white sun
on empty streets

graffiti from a rough fist written
on a merchant’s wall:
        make moussaka not war
